History
The long nosed, tail-finned, British Racing Green Jaguar D-Type was driven to victory in the famous 1955 20-Hours of Le Mans race by future Formula One World Champion Mike Hawthorn. The D-Type was built for racing and was the first race car to adopt a monocoque chassis; introducing aircraft-style engineering to motorsport.
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR was based partly on the technology of the successful Grand Prix car. It also had the body of a road racer. The 300 SLR became the most successful racing sports car by securing major victories for Mercedes in 1955.
The number 19 car, driven by legendary driver Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1955 Le Mans race, was fitted with an innovative and distinctive air brake, but retired early from the race.
Presented as a Limited Edition Twinpack, Scalextric pairs the Jaguar D-Type together with the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR honoring a dramatic era in motorsport history.
